The Buffalo Jr. Sabres won their third straight game in a high scoring contest last Friday when they beat the Collingwood Blues 8-4. Ben Certo got the first goal of the game seven minutes into the first period on the powerplay with Matthew Owczarczak and Matt Krug getting the assists on the play. Collingwood would however answer with a goal a little over eight minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Two minutes after Collingwood got the equalizer the Jr. Sabres were back on the powerplay getting a goal from Pat Conte to give them a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Jr. Sabres dominated the second period of play scoring the first three goals of the period to jump out to a commanding 5-1 lead. The goals came from AJ Moyer, Garrett Moore and Brenden Arniel. Collingwood got a goal with 18 seconds left in the period to cut the Jr. Sabres lead to 5-2. Collingwood's Josh Graves would get his team off to a quick start in the third period scoring 33 seconds in to cut the Jr. Sabres lead to 5-3. The Jr. Sabres would answer quickly though when Kevin Hughes scored 32 seconds later to up Buffalo's lead to 6-3. Collingwood scored with just over 13 minutes to play, but two goals later on in the period from Buffalo's Michael Cassidy stopped any hopes of a Collingwood comeback and gave the Jr. Sabres the 8-4 win. Derek Mohney was in net for the Jr. Sabres and stopped 20 of 24 shots in the win. Cassidy added an assist to give him three points on the night and Moore, Arniel and Moyer each had a goal and an assist for the Jr. Sabres. The win gives the Jr. Sabres 50 points on the year which is only two points out of the playoff picture. Vaughan currently sits in eighth place with 52 points. The Jr. Sabres have only nine games remaining in their push for the playoffs with their next one coming tonight when they will host the Georgetown Raiders at West Seneca at 7:30.
